 Computer Specs:

  • OS - Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate
  • System Type - x64-based PC
  • Processor - Intel Core i&-2600k CPU @ 3.40 GHz
  • BIOS Version/Date - American Megatrends Inc 3202, 2/17/2012
  • Installed Physical Memory (RAM) - 8 GB
  • Motherboard - Asus P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 LGA 1155
  • Power Supply - Corsair TX Series CMPSU-750TX

Issue(s): For 8 months now (yes 8 months) my computer has been restarting itself randomly. It boots back up with the error that it failed to be properly shut down and I just click the default option (like boot in normal windows or whatever). Sometimes this happens once per day. Once per week. Or back to back to back.

A buddy had me check temperatures of my CPU and they were all perfectly fine (according to him). Also had me look (this was all 4 months ago) at log history of shutdowns for errors. He said he couldn't find anything wrong and I probably would just need to reformat...

Additional odd things...keyboard and mouse. For the first few months my keyboard and mouse would not work when the computer was booted. Took like a minute+ for them to work at the login screen. Although one day I unplugged my external harddrive from the front USB ports and my computer restarted itself immediately. When booted up my keyboard and mouse were fine. So for the past 5ish months I just leave it unplugged (the external harddrive).

Now I recently got a new headset Logitech G35. And about a week ago it started becoming static filled. What I noticed today is it is fine when chatting and computer/game volume is going through my desktop speakers. But when I set those as disable (to have all volume come through my headset) it resumes being static filled. So this was also odd...

I have updated my drivers (multiple times). I have download USB, audio, chipset, etc...don't recall exactly which ones I have done. Nothing seems to work...but I have not tried a multitude of options.

Lastly, I was plugging my headset into different ports shortly ago and when plugged into one of the ports on the front of my case (Antec 900 Two..I think...I can confirm if it matters) and my computer shut off. So I really thing something is messed up with USB.

I also have purchased a brand new power strip...as well as often unplug everything and replug everything in. Checked inside my case multipe times to make sure nothing was obstructing a fan or the motherboard or whatnot.

I can get around computers well enough, but am no expert. And this problem has been aggravating so it is time I try to sort this out.

Ok sorry for the length, but I think that is all the details. Thanks to whomever attempts to help me. Thank you so much!!

PS: Sometimes it happens once a week and other times (like just now!) it does it repeatedly. Here is a link to a thread I posted on Reddit.

What fault does it show in event logs?  Go to control panel then system and security, at the very bottom click view event logs.  Check it right after a uncalled for restart, hopefully it will get you pointed!

You need to expand the different categories, I may or may not be able to help.

Hi Phil, thanks again. I assume these are the categories you needed expanded?

I couldn't figure out a way to export the event of logs, so hopefully the photos work.

I do not see anything jumping out, I read your post on Reddit.  I tend to agree that it may be power related, it could be wiring or the PSU.  If you could borrow a PSU for testing that would help to rule it in or out.  Loose connection, improperly seated plug are also a couple of things that can cause an issue.  Your thoughts on it being a USB problem is also a possibility, have you opened "Device Manager" to check for yellow asterisks or greyed out entries in the USB section  It is fairly easy to clear many USB issues by deleted those shown in device manager and rebooting, windows will re-load USB items needed.  Most all USB items leave their mark on the system some can cause conflicts.

Hi Phil. Here is what I see. Should I delete both of the two with yellow marks on them?

I purchased a headset about 2 months ago brand new and it recently started becoming static like (almost the sound you get when you half way plug a jack into a speaker) when two sources of sound are going on at same time. For example chatting with a friend and playing a game and both sounds going through headset. Yet if one through speakers and other through headset it goes away. For the record the power issue has existed long before (many months) the headset.

Edit: For clarity, was not asking for help with that just trying to point out as much as I can regarding issues as of late.

Please uninstall Malwarebytes Antimalware, then download and reinstall it with the latest version.

Odd....I get an error. All I do is try to install and switch to my program files (x86) on my E drive (my storage drive). When it starts installing it gives me the following.

Internal error: Expression error 'Runtime Error (at 79:177)

External exception E06D7363.'

I can continue the install when clicking 'ok', but the error repeats itself a few times during the installation.

It then acts (after clicking ok about 5 times through the process) like it is installed and completed.

Does not seem like the program then wants to open. Just nothing happens when double clicking icon.

Sorry!

Try booting into Safe Mode with Networking and try the install again.

No luck. Odd, never had an issue installing programs. F8 key was not working, it just kept taking me to a screen on what I wanted to boot on (CD Drive, Harddrive 1, Harddrive 2) that ended up booting in normal. Tried a few times with no luck. Found a way to do it via msconfig.

Tried installing and same errors. Deleted everything (well uninstalled and removed the installer), went to MBAM site and re-downloaded installer (all of this in safe mode). Tried a second time with same errors.
