Do you mean the F (Function) keys?  F1 through F12?

Open the Device Manager and see if there is a yellow warning icon, or a red error icon.

Click on the diamond to the left of Keyboard to expand the tree, then double click on your keyboard.

Click on the Driver tab and uninstall the driver.  When you restart the computer a new driver will be installed.

You don't need to uninstall any of the drivers.

It sounds like you may have a loose connection.  If you can borrow an external USB keyboard you can determine rather quickly if it is the keyboard on the laptop or something else.
