Actually it's the wife's PC.  Open IE and I get...

The proxy server isn't responding

Click on Fix Connection Problem button and, well, it doesn't but it does tell me that...

The device or resource (www dot trovi dot  com) [I didn't wnaty to putthe link here] is not setup to accept connections on the port "The World Wide Web service (HTTP)"

Since I can't go online with the PC the Geek Sq guy can't connect to my machine and said to bring it in, which I did but they want it for 2 weeks.  Is there something I can do here 1st before I commit to that.

BTW, I have some real basic PC knowledge but I can follow instructions.  So if anyone can instruct me... I am all ears.

TIA
Marc

I would suggest you to go through the following steps and check.

a ) Under "Tools" in the browser tool bar select "Internet Options".
b ) In the "Internet Options" Window that pops up, click the "Connections" tab at the top.
c ) Click "LAN Settings" near the bottom of the "Connections" section.
d ) If the "Proxy server" checkbox is marked with a check, click it to deselect/uncheck it.
e ) Click "Ok" to close the "Local Area Network (LAN) Settings" window.
f ) Click "Ok" to close the "Internet Options" Window.

Now check if you are able to connect to Internet Explorer.

Reset all your browsers to default. For instructions see here.

Download AdwCleaner from here. Save the file to the desktop.

NOTE: If you are using IE 8 or above you may get a warning that stops the program from downloading. Just click on the warning and allow the download to complete.

Close all open windows and browsers.

  • XP users: Double click the AdwCleaner icon to start the program.
  • Vista/7/8 users: Right click the AdwCleaner icon on the desktop, click Run as administrator and accept the UAC prompt to run AdwCleaner.
You will see the following console:

AdwScan.jpg?

  • Click the Scan button and wait for the scan to finish.
  • After the Scan has finished the window may or may not show what it found and above, in the progress bar, you will see: Pending. Please uncheck elements you don't want to remove.
  • Click the Clean button.
  • Everything checked will be deleted.
  • When the program has finished cleaning a report appears.Once done it will ask to reboot, allow this

adwcleaner_delete_restart.jpg

  • On reboot a log will be produced please copy / paste that in your next reply. This report is also saved to C:\AdwCleaner\AdwCleaner[S0].txt

Hello, just letting you know I moved this topic to the Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs forum where it will stay.
How do I get help? Who is helping me?For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear....Become a BleepingComputer fan: Facebook
