Howdy !

I thought I would pose a new question on this site every day and then take the advice/instructions from those who reply and try to make some head road in my quest to become a little more computer literate.

I realize that by doing this that I will probably try some folks patience. If I become a nuisance, let me know and I will cease a deist. Of course even a knucklehead like me will be able to take the hint if the site owners zap me!

With that said, here goes.

When I am on a web site, responding to a thread and would like to post a link to another site for informational purposes, I right click copy, and go back to the original site and paste the link.

Question of the day: How do you folks condense that link to, say, CLICK HERE, and the site comes up.

If this question does not make sense, let me know. It is impossible to hurt my feelings. I just want to learn a little more.

Thanks for your time,
Dennis

Paste the web address in front of the words you want linked
Put the tag at the end of the web address
Put the tag
at the end of the words you want linked.

It should look like this:

You can practice in the "scribbles" forum.

If you are using Firefox as your browser, and are lazy (or from another point of view, effecient) like me, you will be able to use an extension called "BBCodeXtra" that will do absolutely all the formatting you could ever need.

John

The titled URL/link will now show in post reply box.
BTW The "preview" and the "spell checker" option's are both quite helpful. ;)

How do you folks condense that link to, say, CLICK HERE, and the site comes up.

This is called an embedded link. You can also add color to it. For instance:

You can read the news by clicking HERE.
Looks like this:

You can read the news by clicking HERE.

But this:
You can read the news by clicking HERE.
Looks like this:

You can read the news by clicking HERE.

I think it is great if you want to ask a question a day, I would just be sure you ask it in the appropriate forum, and perhaps research the answers yourself beforehand, as there are many tutorials and much info to be found on this site, and of course, Google can be your friend!

Thanks Albert.

I do read the tutorials, however I do not comprehend much. I am not a well educated man. I have found that in my particular case that I am able to pick up on things a little better by going this route.

Scarlett,

EDIT AWAY: YOU are doing me the FAVOR, not the other way around.

I think it's important to remember that if something you might read here confuses you, or is not clear, that others might have the same experience, and by asking questions you provide not only the responders the occasion to provide illustrated and simple answers, as partiicularly Scarlett has so well done, but also explanations to any other member who may have the same question.
Cheers,
John
