14-08-2014 22:35:46 Removed TP-LINK Wireless Configuration Utility

**** End of log ****

Im trying to resurrect an old computer of mine. I've got a clean install of windows 7 and I put in a new wireless card (TP- Link 300mbps Wireless N Adapter) I installed the utitly and drivers and I was able to find my wireless network and connect. As soon as I try to use the internet the connection disconnects and the wireless card is unable to find my home network as well as any other networks in the area which it was able to see before.

When I restart the computer it will be able to find my network and other networks. When I connect it very quickly disconnects and cant find any networks. I have a laptop in exactly the same position which can connect no problem.

I need to replace the CMOS battery which I will be doing very shortly but I dont know if this can have any effect on the wirless card?

Thanks in advance.

Did you replace the CMOS? Once the time is stable and accurate, network devices may play better.

Here is a BC tool that works to help connectivity problems, give it a try,   http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/windows-repair-all-in-one/ .

have you tried just letting windows connect to wireless networks rather than the utility that came with the card?

Hope this helps thumbup.gif

I replaced the battery and the wireless connection seems to hold for a bit longer now, 3 or 4 minutes, but eventually the connection drops and the network card cant find any networks at all.

I've stopped using the utility and im just connecting through windows application.

Could it be a problem with the compatibility between the motherboard and windows 7? I cant find any drivers for the motherboard that are compatible with Windows 7. Is there any particular drivers that I wont have been able to install that is causing the problem?

It seems odd that the wireless card can work for a bit but then drops out. There's no driver issue with the wireless card.

This MB is an old socket 754 CPU. Asus doesn't even offer Vista drivers. You're better off loading a Linux distro and learning that, or going back to XP and just having it as a legacy machine,,, and living with the vulnerabilities.
