I have a new laptop and it does a strange noise. The only time when the noise is not present is when i'm in bios.

Here is a link to the audio. http://vocaroo.com/i/s1fcr0c81w9L.

What could it be? And is it normal?

Kind of sounds like the hard drive is working, do you see the hard drive activity LED flashing when you are hearing this noise? That would make sense sense while in the BIOS the hard drive is spinning but not really doing anything.

Unless of course it is an SSD drive, those are totally silent.

Sounds pretty normal to me, some are a little louder than others. Odd you don't have a hard drive activity LED ,haven't seen one that did not have one. Can you give the make and model number of your laptop, I may be able to look it up and see if you have one.

Looked it up and your are correct, I don't see a hard drive activity light.

You can always check the event logs for errors with your hard drive, check the system event logs for disk related errors. If you see bad blocks then it is going bad.

Unless it is a really loud noise I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I looked into event logs and it looks fine to me. The sound is not loud. When I'm playing games and the fan gets louder i can't hear the noise over the fan.
