My original post was in the "Am I infected forum" as follows:

My wife's computer was running extremely slow, to the point you really couldn't do anything with it.I ran an MSE scan and it found a virus and says it removed it. I then ran TDSSKiller and it found 2 other threats and removed them I then ran ADCleaner and it found a bunch of issues and supposedely cleaned them. New scans with all of the above come up clean but the computer still runs extremely slow. When I check the CPU usage it is 90-100% all te time even with nothing running. The internet connection also seems to be always active even when no browsers are open. I've chacked the running processes and it seems like tere are a bunch of dllhost processes using the CPU time. How can i get rid of these.

I was instructed to run: Security Check, FSS, MiniToolBox, Malwarebytes, Malware rootkit and Rkill, after running those, I posted the logs and the reply was I was infected with Zekos and at least one rootkit and would need elevated help. Following the instructions I ran DDS and am now posting the log:

Hello and welcome to Bleeping Computer,

please run the following:

Please download the appropriate version of Farbar Recovery Scan Tool  (FRST.exe) from here:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/farbar-recovery-scan-tool/dl/81/  (for 32bit systems)
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/farbar-recovery-scan-tool/dl/82/  (for 64bit systems)
save it to your desktop.
Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.
  • Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press Scan button.
  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please copy and paste it to your reply.
  • The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply.
NEXT
  • Please download aswMBR.exe and save it to your desktop.
  • Double click aswMBR.exe to start the tool.
  • When asked if you want to download Avast's virus definitions please select Yes.
  • Click Scan
    • Upon completion of the scan, click Save log and save it to your desktop, and post that log in your next reply for review. Note - do NOT attempt any Fix yet.
    • You will also notice another file created on the desktop named MBR.dat. Right click that file and select Send To>Compressed (zipped) file. Attach that zipped file in your next reply as well.

This is an odd place for these files to be located.

C:\Documents and Settings\NetworkService\acrobat.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\NetworkService\acrobatreader.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\NetworkService\flashplayer.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\NetworkService\icq.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\NetworkService\skype.exe

Did you place them there for a reason?

Please do the following:

Download attached fixlist.txt file and save it to the Desktop.

Attached File  FixList.txt   1.19KB   1 downloads

NOTE. It's important that both files, FRST and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work.

NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system

Run FRST and press the Fix button just once and wait.
The tool will make a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please post it to your reply.

I didn't place those files there, but my wife and kids are main users of this machine so i really cant say how or why they are there. I am having trouble running aswMBR, it downloaded the virus definitions and the scan started ok for about 25 minutes then it just froze on a particular file. I tried rebooting and running again but it is stopped on the same file again. I have saved the log to the place where it stopped: I'll perform the requested fixlist operation now.

Please run the following:

Download ComboFix from the following location:
Link

VERY IMPORTANT !!! Save ComboFix.exe to your Desktop

* IMPORTANT - Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link here
  • Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts.
As part of it's process, ComboFix will check to see if the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed. With malware infections being as they are today, it's strongly recommended to have this pre-installed on your machine before doing any malware removal. It will allow you to boot up into a special recovery/repair mode that will allow us to more easily help you should your computer have a problem after an attempted removal of malware.
  • Follow the prompts to allow ComboFix to download and install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console, and when prompted, agree to the End-User License Agreement to install the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console.
**Please note: If the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is already installed, ComboFix will continue it's malware removal procedures.

CF_RC_notice.png
  • Once the Microsoft Windows Recovery Console is installed using ComboFix, you should see the following message:
cfRC_screen_2.png
  • Click on Yes, to continue scanning for malware.
When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Please include the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.
Notes:
1. Do not mouse-click Combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.
2. Do not "re-run" Combofix. If you have a problem, reply back for further instructions.

Please run the following:
  • Very Important! Temporarily disable your anti-virus, script blocking and any anti-malware real-time protection before following the steps below.
  • They can interfere with ComboFix or remove some of its embedded files which may cause "unpredictable results".

Copy/paste the text inside the Codebox below into notepad:

Here's how to do that:
Press the WinKey + R to open a run box, type Notepad > click OK.
This will open an empty notepad file:

Copy all the text inside of the code box - Press Ctrl+C (or right click on the highlighted section and choose 'copy')

FCopy::
c:\windows\erdnt\cache\rpcss.dll | c:\windows\system32\rpcss.dll
c:\windows\erdnt\cache\rpcss.dll | c:\windows\system32\dllcache\rpcss.dll

ClearJavaCache::
Now paste the copied text into the open notepad - press CTRL+V (or right click and choose 'paste')

Save this file to your desktop, Save this as "CFScript"

Here's how to do that:

1.Click File;
2.Click Save As... Change the directory to your desktop;
3.Change the Save as type to "All Files";
4.Type in the file name: CFScript
5.Click Save ...

CFScriptB-4.gif
  • Referring to the screenshot above, drag CFScript.txt into ComboFix.exe.
  • ComboFix may request an update; please allow it.
  • ComboFix will now run a scan on your system. It may reboot your system when it finishes. This is normal.
  • When finished, it shall produce a log for you.
  • Copy and paste the contents of the log in your next reply.
CAUTION: Do not mouse-click ComboFix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

NEXT

Please advise how the computer is running now and if there are any outstanding issues.

that looks much better

run a scan with Malwarebytes > update the definitions first > allow it to remove anything found > reboot

attach the resulting log.

NEXT

Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
  • Shutdown your antivirus to avoid any conflicts.
  • Right-mouse click JRT.exe and select Run as administrator
  • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
  • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete.
  • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.

looks good.

Please run the following:

please run a free online scan with the ESET Online Scanner

US Link: http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner/

EU Link: http://www.eset.eu/online-scanner/

Windows Vista/Windows 7/Windows 8 users will need to right click on their Internet Explorer shortcut, and select Run as Administrator

  • Note: For browsers other than Internet Explorer, you will be prompted to download and install esetsmartinstaller_enu.exe. Click on the link and save the file to a convenient location. Double click on it to install and a new window will open. Follow the prompts.
  • Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan.
  • Click the blue Run ESET Online Scanner button
  • Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use.
  • Click Start
  • When asked, allow the program to install the "OnlineScanner.cab" activex control by clicking the Install button
  • Once the activex control is installed, on the next screen click on Enable detection of potentially unwanted applications
  • Click on Advanced Settings
  • Make sure that the option Remove found threats is unticked.
  • Ensure these options are ticked
    • Scan archives
    • Scan for potentially unsafe applications
    • Enable Anti-Stealth technology
  • Click Start
  • Wait for the scan to finish
  • When the scan is done, if it shows a screen that says "Threats found!", then click "List of found threats", and then click "Export to text file..."
  • Save that text file on your desktop. Attach the log as a reply to your next reply..
  • Close the ESET online scan, and let me know how things are now.
