Hi DarkAngel_
Without knowing what problem you fixed (maybe you can explain that), check something real quick.
Navigate to the encrypted files, right click one and select properties.
On the general tab, click the advanced button. With encryption enabled, the "Details" button should be available. If it is, click it. Do you see your user name in the list?

ya, user(user@user1), thats why im so confused.....
their are no more users and geust is off...
when i hade the prob., my computer just wouldn't start xp, i can't remember why, but i do remember it restarting after it atempted loading, so i jumped on to safe mode to fix it with a boot up disk (still can't remeber why, mabye a windows error) my confusion comes at the point that these file's were made AFTER the problums were fixed......virus is always a posability but i scaned(my anti-virus is out of date and my subcripsion is expired, know any good free progams, VERY POOR) so id hope for a quik fix, need to keep writing or ill GO MAD!!!

and also, i don't know how this this will help, but i can no longer incrypt files........weird.

With no AV protection it may very well be a virus or other malware that has caused the problem.

AVG free is an extremely good anti-virus program that offers all the av features of the more well known av programs and in fact many of us here prefer it as it is not a resource hog like Norton, McAffee and the other bundled monstrosities are.

For now you need to do several online scans to see if your computer is infected.

Kaspersky Anti-Virus Web Scanner
http://www.kaspersky.com/service?chapter=161739400#betatest
and
File scanner and virus scanner
http://www.kaspersky.com/scanforvirus

Panda Activescan

http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan.htm

Trend Micro antivirus and malware scan:
http://housecall-beta.trendmicro.com/en/st...orp.asp?id=scan

Etrust Anti-virus web scanner
http://www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/virusinfo/scan.aspx.

Avast Online scan
http://onlinescan.avast.com/

F Secure online scan
http://support.f-secure.com/ols/start.html

Trojan scans
Sygate Trojanscan
http://scan.sygatetech.com/pretrojanscan.html

Windows Security Trojanscan
http://windowsecurity.com/trojanscan
See instructions for it here:
http://www.windowsecurity.com/trojanscan/trojanscan.asp

Once you are sure you are no longer infected we will show you how to regain ownership of the files to which you are being denied access.

Do you have all the updates installed for XP including SP2 and beyond?

If not, once the computer is certified clean, I suggest you fully update it, but not until then as SP2 does not play well if there is any malware residing on the computer when you try to install it.

The only download on Enthusiast's list is AVG free.
The rest are online security scans.
Since no one scanner can catch everything, it's a good idea to do several.

If the scans don't help, you might want to see if this is of any help:

Have you tried to change the file attribute from "read only" to "archive"?

John

Right click on any .doc file, the choose Properties from the drop down menu. Make sure than in the General Tab, the file is being opened with Word, and that (at the bottom) the little box marked "archive" is checked, and no other.
Cheers,
John
