Hi there

The LAN setting on my niece's computer keeps setting itself back to proxy server for some reason. Today is the first time we have encountered the problem.

She is running windows 8 and has Kaspersky but on checking her computer I found that her virus database had not been updated for some time and I am busy trying to update it now but it is very slow.

I did notice that she had bling and some other site that had taken over as home page, so I have changed this on google chrome.

I also went into regedit and removed the numbers next to "proxy server" and rest enable proxy to "0" , but this is not working/ lasting  and I have gone back into regedit a couple of times and ther is new "value data" next to "proxy server" and that ProxyEnable had a value of 1 again.

Not only am I very much a layman in general, but my own computer still runs on windows 7 so I am really no au fait with windoes 8 at all.

Please can anyone give me a solution to this problem? I would be most grateful.

It sounds like there is another program [one you don't want] taking control of your system. The best place to get the help you need is the 'Am I infected' forum here. I'm asking a moderator to relocate this thread there so that one of the trained volunteers can get you cleaned up and back in good running order.

PLEASE also impress on the regular operator that security software MUST be kept up to date. Threats are being released by the thousands daily.

Keep us posted
