I'm unable to install any windows 8 apps from the store. As a matter of fact, I can't even update existing ones. All get stuck on pending and don't download at all. Anyone else has experienced this problem?

Hi,

Can you fill in the blanks around that statement? Hardware, software, anything else not working correctly?

Thanks

yeah well I have this "USB-IF xHCI USB Host Controller" not working error. But I don't suppose it's got anything to do with problem I mentioned above.

Besides this, everything else is working perfectly

Have you run the startup repair from the installation cd? What is your security software, is it current and have you run any scans, what are the results?

Thanks

Well I'm running Avast+Malwarebytes. No viruses as such. And yes I've tried the startup repair but it has no effect.

Well I guess I should have mentioned this in my opening post only. I apologize for that.

Besides this I haven't taken any other pro active steps

The USB host controller software would have come with the motherboard. Have you checked to be sure that all of the drivers are up to date? It may not have anything to do with the problem but the way things interact I'm not going to put money on that concept.

Keep us posted

All I can read on the Intel's website is that Intel has only support for windows 7 while it's Microsoft which has to provide generic drivers for windows 8, but the problem is that I'm unable to find any compatible windows 8 drivers for the host controller. I even tried updating the it with windows 7 drivers in compatibility mode, but no effect.

Then the motherboard is a 'Dell' and their site will have the drivers for everything

Try here

I've already looked at that link a long time back. The drivers don't work. I also posted a thread in their support forum, even bumped quite a few times, but no one responded. I have a feeling that Dell does not support windows 8.1. Besides, the "host controller failing" problem started a long time back i.e as soon as I installed windows 8.1. It's important to understand that the "apps not downloading or updating" problem didn't start at the time but occurred randomly after a month or so.

Although now I would like some apps from the store, so I posted my problem here.

Interesting, I'm surprised that Dell isn't 'supporting' w8.1. They are pushing it with their new hardware. I'll have to ask a few questions later this week.

Until I get some answers I'm out of answers and suggestions.

Sorry

Yup. They only support till windows 8. I had to find separate drivers for audio and wifi as well. Hassle I tell you :/

Anyways thanks for trying. Well, I guess google is my only friend now
