I'm not a techie. Trying to help a client who is traveling with his laptop. He can't get out of safemode. He has a Dell Inspiron. All I need are the steps to tell him how to get out of safemode. Thank you. Jo

If you restart your computer it should bring it out of safe mode.

The following instructions work on a computer running Windows XP only, this is assuming that your laptop has XP installed on it. Use this only if your computer wont come out of safe mode by restarting it.

Go to Start > Run and type "msconfig" in the dialog box that comes up. Press Enter or OK and the System Configuration Utility box should come up. Click on the "BOOT.INI" tab. Down in the bottom left corner of the window under where it says Boot Options there will be several checkboxes. Make sure that the /SAFEBOOT box DOES NOT have a check in the box. When it is unchecked restart your computer and you should be out of safe mode.
