Just got my PC back after nearly three weeks in the shop (AAARRGH!!)
It wouldn't boot due to a HDD problem. While I don't seem to have lost much data, I have gained 15GB of free space so it's not all bad. My OS is preinstalled so I don't have a recovery disk, am just off to the shop to purchase some DVD-RWs to make a copy from SMART RESTORE.
I was looking for a tutorial on BACKUPS but couldn't find one here at BC. Could someone please point me to reliable info. Cheers

Windows has a great set of tutorials on backups.

click start/help and type "backup" in the search box at the top.
