i am preparing to repave my pc which is running win7 home premium. it is very painful to lose years of user-data during repaving. i want to backup the user-created-data in windows. what are the possible locations that i need to look into? thanks in advance :)

PS. i am aware of the fact that backing up malware-created data is harmful. i will exercise extreme caution to go through what i am gonna backup and try to minimize what will be backed-up; also that i wont restore what i have backed-up without scanning thoroughly with security software.

Are you saying that your system is infected now?

If so...I suggest that you try to get the malware removed by one of our two malware forums...before backing up or doing anything else.

i have already gone through the procedure you have suggested, and i was advised to repave the system as the only last option left. hence my problem now is to backup user-config data of some applications (not all applications), which afe difficult to congigure again.

examples:

C:\Programdata

C:\Users\[username]\AppData

browser bookmarks

are there more locations like these?

thanks in advance.

I can't answer that question...I believe it should be asked of whoever told you to nuke your system.  I am in no position to assess the type of infection or severity.  In some cases, users lose everything, I believe.

That question is best answered in the malware forums where the advice to repave was made, IMO.
