I have a problem that might belong in virus/malware removal forum. I don't know.
When I start my laptop it goes to the start screen where the Microsoft Windows energy star emblem appears with the name "Microsoft Windows," and then it just stays there. It doesn't load the screen where I sign-in to get to my main screen where I cab access the programs or the Internet. In order to get it to load I have to do a System Recovery from the F8 screen, or DOS screen, whatever it is called. I haven't shutdown my computer for a couple days because if I do, then I will have to go through the System Recovery process (a long process) to access it again.
I ran full scans with Malwarebytes Anti-malware, SUPERAntiSpyware, and my antivirus, Microsoft Security Essentials. All three programs said everything was fine, but I know everything is not fine. I don't know if it is related, but sometimes Internet Explorer opens on its own. It has been doing this for many months and I never noticed any problems or why it was doing this, so I always just manually close it when it opens.
I appreciate any help that you can give me. My computer's specs are listed below. Thank you!
Here are my laptop's specs:
Hewlett-Packard Presario CQ61 Notebook PC
AMD Sempron M120 2.10 GHz Processor
2 GB RAM (1.75 GB Usable)
64-bit operating system
No pen or touch input available
Windows 7 Home Premium
I use (all free version):
- Microsoft Security Essentials
[Please note - Norton Antivirus was previously installed on this system and there seems to be hints of it still on here, though I'm only guessing because I still see the Norton's emblem on some programs.]
- Windows Firewall
- Mozilla Firefox browser
