jhayz - I clicked on this page and followed instructions to select RUN and type in cmd. I got a window with this line in it:
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator.CYCJKF1.001> with a cursor.
I typed in msiexec /unregister and pressed enter, and the very same line C:\Documents( and so on) appeared with a cursor at the end. I then typed in msiexec /regserver and pressed enter. The exact same line C:\Documents (and so on) appeared for the third time with a blinking cursor at the end. The instructions then said to close the command prompt and try to install software. Shouldn't the msiexec commands have shown something on the screen?
I went to control panel, add/remove, and tried to remove programs with these results:
Mozilla Firefox - the blue stripe showing Firefox selected just flashed, no messages, other windows, or anything to work with.
Monster Mash - error message "could not open install.log file"
MTV Toolbar - I got a window asking me to confirm that I wanted to remove, I said yes, then got the error message about Windows Installer Service Could Not Be Accessed.
AVG: Message that Safe Mode was detected and a long message about trying to run the AVG 2014 Installer in safe mode, etc. I cancelled out of that process although I wonder if AVG is part of the problem.
I get a different result depending on what I try to remove, but the bottom line is that nothing at all has been uninstalled. Thank you for your help.
