i've been looking around my system after seeing tutorials for various things online and wondering where gpedit.msc was. i wasn't planning to change anything yet but wanted to look at it, only i can't find it anywhere. typing gpedit.msc into the "run" command box brought up by "windows key" +"r" brings up an error(saying that windows can't find the file). and searching for it gives a file of that name but when i open the file it has an error message displayed in the main section of that window which says something about a snap-in. what is going on here? is gpedit.msc not accessible due to my version of windows or something? i use windows 8. not 8.1 on a computer bought in aug/sept/oct 2013.

Group Policy Editor will only be in Professional and Enterprise editions, not the basic version.  What version of Windows 8 do you have?

To find out what version you have right click on Computer and then click on Properties.
