I am very disappointed that windows 7 does not include the old Starfield screensaver.  Is there somewhere that I can get an original version of this screensaver, prefferably straight from Microsoft?

It has to be imported from a WinXP system. If you have access to XP, then the name of the file is "ssstars.scr" , minus quotes.

Tested in VM, works. Copy ssstars.scr to C:\Windows\System32...

I would advise against it for security reasons. Starfield screensaver was discontinued by M$ in 2001 shortly after release of XP... perhaps borrow an Official XP CD or copy the file from a friend or relative that has an XP CD or system?

It looks like you can download it from this freeware site.

There's bound to be a computer shop still running a bench XP system. Just bring in a flash drive to the shop and ask them if they will copy the file to it. It's only a 14kb file!!

Yes, there is a copyright issue, but so what? It's a screensaver, not a fully functional software suite. PLUS, it's only being moved from one MS product to another!!!
