What a great site. And am I ever in need of help.

My grandfather's computer has been taken over by pop-ups and viruses. He strictly uses his computer for email using America Online's browser, and he plays Spider Solataire. Lately he can't even go on his computer without being innfiltrated w/ crazy pop-ups that look like they are from Microsoft or some other important company. He gets confused by these constant windows and is starting to get intimidated by the computer. My grandfather is 93 years old and relies on the computer to bring him a bit of joy in his aging life...Please help.

I have scanned with Ad-aware, Spybot, Ewido, Clean-Up, CWShredder, Trojanhunter, and Hijack this.

Here's my Ewido log:

Hello BobSkillz,

Welcome to Bleeping Computer

Hang in there, and we'll have Grandpa back in business. Very excellent that he does computers.....never stop learning! :flowers:

We need to move HijackThis! to it's own permanent folder to ensure that we don't lose its backups. To make a permanent folder, double-click the My Computer icon on the desktop.
Click Local Disk C:.
File | New | Folder
A new folder called New Folder will be created.
Rename New Folder to HJT or HijackThis. Now move HijackThis! into the new folder you just created.
Read here how to unzip/extract properly:
http://metallica.geekstogo.com/xpcompressedexplanation.html

Restart your computer, and tap the F8 key on your keyboard. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again. Using the arrow keys on the keyboard, scroll to and select the Safe mode menu item, and then press Enter.

Please run HijackThis! and click "Scan." Place checks next to the following entries, if present:

Close all browser and other windows except for HijackThis!, and click "Fix Checked".

Now open Ewido, click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click on the Start button. This scan can take quite a while to run, so time to go get a drink and a snack....
If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. You can select "clean" and check the boxes "Perform action with all infections" and "Create encrypted backup" before clicking on OK.
When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file. Please restart normally, then paste the contents of the text file to this thread, along with a new HijackThis log.

Let me know how the computer is running.

Thanks,
