You really don't want to do this, you may miss an important message which needs your attention.

Please do the following so we can get an idea of what is going on with this computer.

Please download and install Speccy to provide us with information about your computer.  When  FileHippo opens, click on Download latest version in the upper right pane.

When Speccy opens you will see a screen similar to the one below.

speccy9_zps2d9cdedc.png

Click on File which is outlined in red in the screen above, and then click on Publish Snapshot.

The following screen will appear, click on Yes.

speccy7_zpsfa02105f.png

The following screen will appear, click on Copy to Clipboard.

speccy3_zps1791b093.png

In your next post right click inside the Reply to Topic box, then click on Paste.  This will load a link to the Speccy log.

Please download MiniToolBox, save it to your desktop and run it.

Checkmark the following checkboxes:

• List last 10 Event Viewer log
• List Installed Programs
• List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
• List Minidump Files

Click on Go to start the scan.  Once it is finished highlight the text, copy it and paste it in your next post.

...thats the thing I want know if I can enable the more detailed screen that used to appear in XP etc...

I bought a new computer a couple of months ago that I use mainly for music production and internet. It has been randomly freezing. It is still under warranty and I am dealing with the company. It wil probably now get sent back to them to fix. If you are able to shed any light on what the problem is then that would be really helpful. But as I am still dealing with the manufacturer I don't want to feel you are wasting your time. Your opinion would however be of great value :)

This is what has been done until up untill now::

Manufacturer ran  software(?) that stress the system to see how the system coped. It was OK and didn't crash.

Restored to factory state using Acronis.

Tried a different audio interface.

Updated drivers for video and network card.

Chnaged AV from Avast to Avira.

Switched from 32bit to 64bit version of my Audio Production software.

Ran 'sfc /scannow' and 'DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth’

The crashes happen at any time. The system freezes and nothing works (mouse/keyboard) and I have to reboot from the button on the front of the PC. Sometimes connected to the interent and sometimes not. It is often when I am running either Firefox or Ableton Live becasue that is what I use most of the time.

Only once has a blue screen appeared (yesterday):

:( You PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. We are just collecting some error inforrmation an you can restart. (0% Complete).

If you would like to know more you can search online for this error: WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR

I waited an hour and these message never changed from '0%' so I had to reboot from the button on the front of the PC. trying to write a  There was no error number listed.

I am going to contact the manufacturer again later today and hopefully they wil be able to provide a solution or return the PC to be investigated. But any insight into the problem would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,

J

The following is from the Windows Development Center.

The WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR bug check has a value of 0x00000124. This bug check indicates that a fatal hardware error has occurred. This bug check uses the error data that is provided by the Windows Hardware Error Architecture (WHEA).

I would suggest calling the people you have been in contact with and make them aware of this error.

If you wanted to take a look to see what you can find you could rum Memtest86 or SeaTools (Seagate's diagnostic tool).

Memtest86

1) Please download the Memtest86 Pre-Compiled Bootable ISO file.

2) Unzip the downloaded memtest86 file.  You will need a program like 7-Zip to unzip this file.

3) Inside, you will find the memtest86 file.

4) Please download and install ImageBurn.

5) Insert blank CD into your CD drive.

6) Open ImgBurn, and click on Write image file to disc.

ImgBurn1_zps715cb1c2.png

7) Click on the Browse for a file... icon:

ImgBurn2_zpsaea72ba9.png

8) Locate the memtest86 file, and click on the Open button.

9) Click on the blue arrow to start burning bootable memtest86 CD.

imageburn11_zpse44f577b.png

10) Once the CD is created, boot from it, and memtest will automatically start to run.

Please note:  It may be neccessary to change the boot order in the BIOS so the CD/DVD-ROM is the first device in the boot order and the hdd second.

Each pass consists of 8 tests, it is suggested that you run at least 7 passes, this will take several hours, you may find it simpler to let it run overnight.  The longer you run the passes the more comprehensive the results will be.

If you are running multiple modules and have a failure, remove all but one module and test it separately, continue this with each module till you find the one that failed.

When you discern that a module is good, use it to test each slot to be sure there isn't a problem with one of them.

When the test is complete a display similar to the one below will appear.  Note the locations of the Pass and Errors, any Error is indicative of a failed module.

memtest1_zps7be717f5.png

Please download SeaTool for DOS.

When the SeaTools for DOS website opens click on I Accept, then click on the Download button in step #4.

This download is a ISO image which you will need to burn to a CD in order to create a bootable disc with which to run the diagnostic tests.

To burn this ISO file to a CD or DVD use the instructions below.

Notice:  This applies only to Windows 7 and Windows 8, earlier versions do not have this.

1.  Place a blank CD or DVD in the tray of your optical drive and close the tray.

2.  After you have downloaded the ISO image you want to burn right click on the Start orb, then choose Windows Explorer.

3.  When Explorer opens click on Downloads in the left pane.  Scroll down till you find the ISO file you want and double click on it.  Click on Burn Disk Image.

4.  In the image below you will see Disk burner:, this should be set to the optical drive you want to use.  Click on Verify disc after burning if you want to Windows to verity the disc image after burn.  Click on burn.

burndiskimage1_zpsb502b181.png

5.  In the image below you can see that the green progress bar, when the image is finished burning the bar will be filled.

burndiskimage2_zps17a9d6ff.png

6.  After the image has completed being burned click on Close

Once the disc is created load it in the CD/DVD drive and restart the computer.

Please note:  You may need to change the boot order in the BIOS so the CD/DVD-ROM is the first device in the boot order, and the hdd is the second device.

Please run the short test and include the results in your next post in this topic.

Family and loved ones will always be a priority in my daily life.  You never know when one will leave you.

Thanks  dc3,

I will run memtest and Seatools tonight (will run 'Seatools for Windows' for Win8.1?).

I spoke to the people who built my PC and updated them on the error report. They remote connected and they:

  • Changed a Power  Management Setting in BIOS - Speedstep disabled.
  • Updated Intel Rapid Sorage Technology.

....I willl see how I get on.....

Thanks again,

J

Things went OK with the tests:

Memtest - 7 passes with no errors ;)

Seatools Long Generic - Pass :)

I'll now see over the next few days if the crashes stop since Speedstep was disabled......

j :)

Computer froze again today - no Blue Screen. I was running Ableton Live at the time and had the internet/Mozilla on in the background.

Its just seems so random. Apart from this one very annoying problem the system is great.

I will contact the manufacturer tomorrow and hopefully they will let me send it back......

....anyone got any suggestions as to what might cause a computer to randomly freeze?

EDIT : ....OK, sending it back to the manufacturer to be fixed (hopefully).....

One odd thing I jus noticed in the event log was an entry that didn't quite make sense. It indicates that the computer 'has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly' - this didn't happen actually happen, if there was any power problem there was no noticable effect. The computer did not reboot or shutdown or crash. Here is the log:

If you are sending this back to the manufacturer I would suggest leaving it to them to resolve this.
