Hi,

All the sudden in the last two days I have been getting all kind of different freezes and now very frequent blue screens.

I have uninstalled Avast and re-installed the graphics driver suite, with little effect it seems.

Edit: Memtest86 has found no issues.

Thanks in advance for the assistance.

Here is an Whocrashed excerpt from what I have been getting:

Have you tried a startup repair with the installation CD?

I will do as instructed and post the results later.

Some news while I do that:

- Startup repair has yielded no tangible results.

- Explorer.exe now suffers rather frequent "stopped responding" popups, but usually recovers fast.

- A atikmdag.sys blue screen, and another generic one while rebooting

Are you overclocking this system?

No overclocking was done. Where I live the ambient temperatures can be too high for reliable operation when gaming.

The 0x1000007E error for atikmdag.sys indicates your video driver is probably corrupt, as does the error code for atikmpag.sys.

The errors for ntoskrnl.exe REFERENCE_BY_POINTER indicates there could be issues with your RAM. I see you have six slots available, and two are empty. The slots are often paired -- make sure you don't have RAM installed in slots that aren't paired.

The errors involving ntkrnlmp.exe can be caused by several things -- damage to the processor, the CPU operating outside its normal range (usually due to frequent overclocking) or missing updates to the BIOS.

The 0xc0000005 error for explorer.exe can be caused by system file corruption, faulty drivers, or problems with the hardware. You are also having issues with SearchIndexer.exe, which searches and indexes your file system, and WerFault.exe, which handles error reporting. These also indicate some of your system files may be corrupt.

I don't see Avast listed among your installed programs, yet (Sorry, I overlooked your comment about uninstalling Avast). aswsp.sys is throwing up errors. This is the system driver file for Avast. If you want to remove it thoroughly, run this tool: http://www.avast.com/en-us/uninstall-utility

In short, this could all be the result of hardware issues, or serious system file corruption, or both.

Definitely update your video drivers (Again, my bad for reading too fast). Try installing another video card -- the fact that you updated your drivers indicates it's probably a hardware error. I would recommand running Memtest again, on each individual RAM stick. I also recommend booting into the windows recovery environment and running sfc /scannow from the command line. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/11028.how-to-access-windows-recovery-environment-in-windows-7.aspx

I will proceed with the sfc /scannow

Some comments:

- I reinstalled the ATI/AMD driver (redownloaded the latest it to have a uncorrupted version)

- As far as I remember I installed the RAM sticks in accordance to the manual. AFAIK the Dual/Tripple channel won't work if not installed this way. In either case, this has been unchanged for years, with pretty much no issues on that.

- Explorer errors have just now appeared in a frequent form.

- I uninstalled Avast to see if it was the origin of the issues. So far it seems that the freezes have disappeared (BSOD still appear). I also ran the tool you linked as it was not possible to uninstall it otherwise.

My edited comments seemed to have just missed your response. Did you update the driver just before the latest minidump, or after? It it was before, try a new video card.

You may want to run the Avast uninstall tool again. There are still traces of it on your system. I also recommend you install some sort of AV program ASAP -- you don't want to leave your system unprotected.

You mentioned high ambient temperatures where you live. If the system isn't kept in a cool room, that can eventually damage the CPU and/or the RAM. Did you recently have any power surges or storms in your area? That may have damaged some of the hardware.

I may have not understood it perfectly what you are asking (non-native English speaker) but if I do, I have gotten the same atikmdag.sys BSOD after updating/reinstalling the graphics drivers.

Edit: It might take me till tomorrow or the day afterwards to get a spare card to test.

I will run the uninstaller again.

The system is in a cooled room, but in general I'm not comfortable with the extra temperature from overclocking as I may not be at home to connect the AC. There have been pretty much no issues with the powergrid lately and other electrical devices have had no issues.

As for the results of sfc /scannow:

  • CBS.log

Upload Skipped (This file was too big to upload)

  • CBS.rar

You aren't permitted to upload this kind of file

I'm getting these issues when trying to post the log (the raw .log and .rar).

I have put the file on Gdrive, as the size is 985kb uncompressed.

See my earlier comment about a new video card. If the drivers are new, it's a hardware issue.

Did sfc come back with any errors stating it couldn't fix certain files? If so, type command in the search bar, right click and choose Run as administrator, and run the following command:
findstr /c:"[SR] Cannot repair member file" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >sfcdetails.txt
I don't need to see the whole log file, just what is in the text file the above command will create. Copy and paste it, rather than attach it.

Problems with the iassdo.dll.mui file can be caused by faulty memory or a faulty Windows update. The file assists in changing the default language in user interfaces in Windows when attempting to authenticate to services over the Internet.

It doesn't look like there are any serious system file problems. It's looking more and more like there are hardware issues. Again, I suggest replacing the video card, and running Windows Memory Diagnostic Tool. Run the Extended test under Test Mix. It is recommended to run the Extended test overnight.

I also recommend you check your Windows Updates to make sure they installed and are up to date.
