A few weeks ago I built my first computer. It worked excellent. Then I went on vacation for a weeks. While I was gone there was a lot of thunder and lightning. My PC was turned off, put the power was plugged in. When I came home, I tried to turn my PC on. The fans started, put I didn't get a picture on my screen. What could possibly have gone wrong?

there are quite a few variables here.  a good start would be to ask about how your monitor cable is plugged into your PC.

is there a way to check to see if the same monitor works on a different PC?

can you get into your BIOS during initial power-up? most often this is done by pressing the F8 key while th PC is powering on.
