Hi all. I've stopped using AOL a long time ago on my laptop but I haven't gotten around to wiping it from my computer until today. This morning I was connected via dialup with copper.net ISP and while browsing I finally uninstalled AOL. After a very long uninstallation process it asked me if I wanted to restart; I hit no because I was in the middle of something.

Ok... so everything was fine for a little while, then my connection started to die. At first I was able to reconnect for short periods of time before being cut off. Now I can't even connect to the internet. During connection the dial tone goes flat and it says failed because there was no response. I restarted the computer and even created a new network connection, didn't work. I checked all my phone lines and they were fine. In fact, I created the same account on my desktop (from which I am currently writing) and I can connect using the same ISP, account, and number fine.

Any suggestions as to what went wrong on my laptop, and what I can do to fix? (It may or may not have anything to do with the AOL uninstall.) My laptop is running WinXP Home. Much thanks

why dont you try uninstalling ther modem, and re-installing the driver.
and check>(in internet explorer) tools>interner options>connections....check to see that your new connection is set to default.
