I want to buy a laptop under which can run heavy softwares such as netbeans along with matlab and google chrome. Which processor will be better celeron dual core or pentium dual core?

Ram available: 2 Gb ddr3

Cache: 2 mb

Hard disk: 500 Gb

I also want to know if i3 processor will make a large difference rather than dual core.

Generally speaking (depending on the exact model cpus) i3 is better than pentium which is better than celeron. i3>pentium>celeron.

Again this really depends on which models and generation they are. Most i3's are dual core with hyperthreading (4 threads).

I haven't used netbeans but I do use eclipse and the android addon which really needs a stronger cpu to run. If you do anything with the android emulator add-on I would suggest the i3. The i3 will be more future proof than the others as well.

I am an engineering student and want to know if any of these laptops would meet my requirements of opening netbeans/eclipse, matlab and google chrome 5 to 6 tabs simultaneously without hanging

Asus X551CA-SX075D Laptop (3rd Gen CDC/ 2GB/ 500GB/ DOS) or Asus 1015E-CY041D Netbook (CDC/ 2GB/ 320GB/ DOS) orAsus X200CA-KX018D Netbook (CDC/ 2GB/ 500GB/ DOS) or Acer Aspire V5-123 Netbook (APU Dual Core/ 2GB/ 500GB/ Linux) (NX.MFRSI.002) or laptops of these sorts....

Actually I have a budget of less than Rs. 20k. So plz advise me which laptop can i go for under these specifications..

I do not know the value of Rs, so I can't tell you what the best hardware you can get for the cost is. I would recommend you look for a pentium dual core or higher of the generation 3 intel chips or newer with 4gb of ram. If you can find an i3 with 4gb of ram I would recommend that. A celeron might do the job but it will be slow.

20,000 indian rupees.... isn't that like 420 usd?.

this is a toughie. on one instance, you need the math processing power of an i7, but the low heat of a celeron in an enclosed area like a laptop. the best way to go is the i-3 hyperthreaaded dual core with the lowest hertz clock speed level  and nm fab process (22) you can find.

the i3 is a relatively inexpensive processor.

if you can spring a few more funds, i saw this one:

or if the refurb angle is acceptable, this little i5 quad-core lappy may do the trick:
