Toshiba Satellite laptop makes funny noise and won't boot. Error message says, Windows\system 32\ntoskrnl.exe status Oxc0000098 -Windows failed to launch because the kernel is missing or corrupt. I can't even get it to read my system restoration discs from Toshiba. Can someone please help?

Hi,

How old is this laptop? What was the computer doing just before this problem appeared?

Hi,

Sounds more like a CD/DVD drive gave out

Can you get the disk out, reboot and let us know what happens?

Got that disc out and put in disc to reinstall Windows because was next message to come up. Now just keeps repeating same thing. Message says to insert reinstall Windows disc, choose language, and follow instructions as they appear. So if it's my CD/DVD drive that went out is it replaceable? How? Thanks you're very helpful!

My vote is still on a bad DC/DVD drive. And, yes, they can be replaced. If you don't have a good tech you can take it to you may be able to work through Toshiba tech support. The drive is held in by a couple of very small screws which can be removed when the laptop is bottom side up. The connections are usually hard so there shouldn't be any cables to mess with. It will take a Toshiba replacement to work correctly.

Been to that desert. The only thing to hang ten around is something tall and cool to drink :)
