Hi,

I have a WD (WDBWLG0030HB) external HDD that has stopped working and I am worried I will not be able to recover my data. It appears to powerup ok but when I plug the USB into the computer Windows cannot recognise it. Sometimes it says "unrecongnisable device" and other times won't detect it at all. I am running Windows 8.1 on a Toshiba satellite laptop. Any suggestions? Or do I have to accept my data may be lost? I did not have it backed up to cloud. thanks

The problem turned out to be my USB ports. I plugged the external HDD into another computer and it worked without any problems. Two of my laptops USB ports appear to be fried. Will have to check my warranty.
