boot critical partmgr.sys windows not working please help

Hi

Please could someone help i have a toshiba satellite laptop - trying to help a friend out - the windows has failed and the recovery system took for ages to process and then came up with boot critical file d:\windows\system 32\drivers\partmgr.sys is corrupt. also file repair error code came up with error code 0x490, she does not recovery discs.

 You can make a repair disc on another Windows 7 computer with 32 or 64 bit version matching the one you're working on.  Go to Start -> Control Panel -> Backup and restore -> Create system repair disc.  Insert a blank CD-R and it will make it.  Then take the repair disc, boot from it, and do the repair.

 I assumed Windows 7 for this since you didn't say.
