I have noticed for some time that when I start up the laptop the black screen after the initial start and before the windows loads just lags a long while. Recently the computer was having trouble crashing in fire fox and yesterday the whole system locked and I force shut it down. When I try to restart it now it only gets past the Dell screen and then won't move out of the black screen to load windows. The cursor does appear after a while but it never gets off the black. I have been able to get into the boot options screen but I can't even get it to load into safe mode. The windows startup repair says it can't repair this computer and also the diagnosis finds a couple of errors. I'm not an expert in this stuff and could use any advice or help. Thanks so much!!

I'd boot from a Windows install disc or a repair disc and to a repair.  If you don't have either, you can go to another Windows 7 32 or 64 bit system matching yours and make a repair disc.  To do that click Start -> Control Panel -> Backup and Restore -> Create system repair disc.  Insert a blank CD-R and in 4-5 min. it'll make it.

You can also boot to the Command Prompt with the repair disc and save your data if need be.

 Good luck.

Edited post - Hamluis.

Everyone with a computer should back his system up to an external hard drive regularly.

To the OP...you have posted this same issue 3 times, please stop creating new topics and just pursue the topic into which this post shall shortly be merged.

Posting the same thing 5 times...does not mean that an answer/response that is useful will be forthcoming any faster than if you just ride the one topic.

Thank you.

Louis
