Are you just trying to format it or are you trying to retrieve data from it? In disk management is it just showing Unallocated or does it list the disk as RAW?

See if doing it outside of Windows helps. Download the bootable version of Partition Wizard. Burn the iso file. Boot the disk. Select the USB flash drive. Make sure it is your flash drive and not your internal hard drive or you will lose all of your data. Do a quick wipe (zeros). Then partition and format.

Edit; You may have to put your optical drive as the first boot device in BIOS.

That drive is dead, my friend. I loathe to rid of mine. Got a few laying around I just believe there will be a resurrection day for them. Not that reliable but getting better. Have had new and old flip on me without warning.

Our thoughts go out with this moment of silence.... :fumanchu:

I agree with bludgard. The drive is dead. But, you can usually find some good sales depending on where you live. I picked up a 16GB PNY for about $7. Just be thankful you didn't have any important data on it.

Please take a look at this post by A6Tech. It may get your flash drive back.

Warning to whoever clicks on the links on the webpage previous post points to: Got 4 open windows (IE11) hijacked and had to kill them through task manager to regain control. The only other option was to "upgrade my browser" from java....L0L :hysterical:

Thanks for pointing that out bludgard. I didn't click on the links :-( I tried a couple and it does take you to an adfly account. I didn't have the problem you did because I was running Firefox with Noscript and Adblock along with Ghostery. I will post this in the other thread.

varun.busy Your drive is 99% not dead. This webpage offers a solution: http://www.flashdrive-repair.com/2014/02/best-usb-flash-drive-repair-software-recovery-format.html?m=1

And use Chrome or Firefox to avoid bludgard's problems :D
