As title suggest. She was phoned up and allowed the guy to instruct her to enable and accept Remote Access.

I know how her laptop here and have disabled remote access. Apparently he had access for at least 15mins.

I'm about to stick some programs on a usb to run on it.

She's running WIndows 8.1

ASWMBR.exe

TDSSKiller

(Combo Fix doesn't work on Win 8.1)

What else should I do ?

Thanks

:)

Hello gaalla

I would say as there maybe personal financials on here that we get a deeper look and be sure there are no access points.
Please follow this Preparation Guide, do steps 6,7 and 8 and post in a new topic.
Let me know if all went well.

Hi again Boopme, I tried running the DDS program and get a message saying "DDS is not meant to run in 'Compatibility Mode'. The program shall now exit." I'm running on Windows 8.1, but don't know how to exit compatibility mode.

DSS won't work on 8 either.. Just repost your question per step 7 and state you are using win8.

Hey boopme. The question clearly states that she was using Windows 8.1.

Hi Gaalla, Boopme,

Going to reformat the hard drive and reinstall Windows, to be 100% sure.

One question though, I'm backing up the data she has on her hard drive (documents, pictures, videos, etc.) onto DVD so she doesn't lose it. Is there any risk that malware could be hidden in her data that would reinfect her computer when I copy it back on there after the reformat?
