I have tried 5 times and used windoows update troubleshooter. It identiefies 3 problems and fixes them  but then goes into undoing changes.

OOPS! I meant 8.1.

1.  For Windows 8.1 update, it is officially Windows 8.1U.

2.  Open an elevated command prompt (admin).

3.  Enter the command (no quotes): "net stop wuauserv".

4.  Enter the command (no quotes): "cd /d %windir%"

5.  Enter the command (no quotes): "rd /s SoftwareDistribution"

6.  Follow the instructions in:

Remember, per Microsoft (referring to Windows 8.1): "All future security and nonsecurity updates for Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, and Windows Server 2012 R2 require this update to be installed. We recommend that you install this update on your Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1, or Windows Server 2012 R2-based  computer in order to receive continued future updates".

"This update" refers to Windows 8.1U (KB2919355)

Best of luck, and have a great day!
