Processor support depends on the motherboard. There's more to it than just the socket which obviously has to match. Since laptops use proprietary parts, the only way to answer your question would be to contact HP. I'd suggest you start with their web site because getting good info from their tech support has been difficult in my experience. If you can find out who makes the motherboards in your laptop, assuming it's not HP, you could also check with them.
