Hi i'm Tom from Australia.

I am having trouble with my computer with what i believe is various spyware/viruses.

My homepage has changed and i cannot stop it from going back to www.systemuptodate.net site saying your computer is vulnerable to hackers attacks and breakdowns. A pop-up window states i am infected with the virus W32.Myzor.FK@yf.

I am not sure why this is happening or why pop-up windows have begun to appear. I have followed the step by step guide before using hijackthis and the programs found quite a few infected files however some could not be deleted. Also my VET anti-virus software now has a red cross over it.

Here is my log:

Hello,

It's better to print out the next instructions or save them in notepad, because you also have to work in safe mode without networking support, so this page wouldn't be available then.
It is also important you don't miss a step and perform everything in the right order!!

* Download smitRem and save the file to your desktop.
Doubleclick it and choose install. This will create a new folder on your desktop with the name smitrem.

* Reboot into Safe Mode`: ( without networking support !)
°To get into the Safe mode as the computer is booting press and hold your "F8 Key". Use your arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode" and press your Enter key.

* Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following if still present:

O2 - BHO: Nothing - {f79fd28e-36ee-4989-aa61-9dd8e30a82fa} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\hp100.tmp
O9 - Extra button: Corel Network monitor worker - {7D522172-E754-491E-BFE2-614B42DC9FFB} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\iegfxfrw.dll (HKCU)
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Corel Network monitor worker - {7D522172-E754-491E-BFE2-614B42DC9FFB} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\iegfxfrw.dll (HKCU)

* Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.
Make sure your Internet Explorer is closed when you click Fix Checked!

* Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

* Reboot back into Windows normal mode.

Post a new HijackThis Log and the contents of smitfiles.txt which is present on your Homedrive (C:\ in most cases)
in you next reply.

Hi TheSaint, almost there

Perform next please...

* Download Roguescanfix
Download it to your desktop.
Doubleclick roguescanfix_setup.exe
Select the language setup and click ok.
Proceed with the installation. Make sure the 'Start Roguescanfix' is checked.
Once you click Finish, it will start the fix.

Note: This tool needs internet connection because it downloads an additional file to let the tool work properly.
If your firewall gives an alert, allow it instead of blocking it.
In case you still get the message BFU.exe is not present, download BFU.zip from here.
Unzip it and place BFU.exe in the Roguescanfix-folder, present in your Program Files-folder. Then doubleclick Roguescanfix.bat.

When you start roguescanfix.bat you'll see a menu:
1. Run Roguescanfix
2. Run sharedtasksrem

Type 1 and click enter for Run Roguescanfix
(Note! Don't click 2 unless advised!!)

The tool will uninstall some programs and delete related files and registrykeys.
When some files won't get deleted, it will ask you to reboot your system to delete the files after reboot.
Please make sure the uninstall of the programs are finished before you click Yes to reboot.
Post the log (tasks.txt) that will open in your next reply. (tasks.txt will be present in folder Program Files\Roguescanfix)

Hi miekiemoes,

I downloaded Roquescanfix as requested.
Ran the scan and it didn't ask me to reboot but i did anyway.

The log is as follows:

Export SharedTaskScheduler key
------------------------------
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\SharedTaskScheduler]
"{438755C2-A8BA-11D1-B96B-00A0C90312E1}"="Browseui preloader"
"{8C7461EF-2B13-11d2-BE35-3078302C2030}"="Component Categories cache daemon"
"{FCADDC14-BD46-408A-9842-CDBE1C6D37EB}"="z"

sharedtaskkey: FCADDC14-BD46-408A-9842-CDBE1C6D37EB
---------------------------------------------------
no keys found

Thanks,
Tom.

Looks like that one CLSID is only a leftover... so to delete it, perform next:

Open notepad and copy and paste next present in the quotebox below in it:
(don't forget to copy and paste REGEDIT4)

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\SharedTaskScheduler]
"{FCADDC14-BD46-408A-9842-CDBE1C6D37EB}"=-

Save this as fix.reg Choose to save as *all files and place it on your desktop.
It should look like this: Posted Image
Doubleclick on it and when it asks you if you want to merge the contents to the registry, click yes/ok.

Let me know how things are running now.

Hello Miekiemoes,

I have done as asked and it said that it was successful in putting it to the registry.

The computer seems to be running great now. I dont have any popup windows or anything like that happeningand my computer seems to be running a bit quieter than it was which is a very good thing.

Should i run any more scans and post logfiles?

Thanks for all your help,
Tom.

Hi Tom.

Yes, problem should be solved here.
Perform a full scan with an updated Adaware SE and/or Spybot S&D to get rid of some leftovers if still present.
If you don't have those programs yet, you can find the downloadlocations in my signature.

And glad I could help.

To keep this clean in the future, I would suggest the following things:

Install Spywareblaster
SpywareBlaster doesn`t scan and clean for so-called spyware, but prevents it from being installed in the first place. It blocks the popular spyware ActiveX controls, and also prevents the installation of any of them via a webpage.

* Avoid illegal sites, because that's where most malware is present.
* Don't click on links inside popups.
* Don't click on links in spam messages claiming to offer anti-spyware software; because most of these so called removers ARE spyware.
* Download free software only from sites you know and trust. Because a lot of free software can bundle other software, including spyware.

Let your antispywarescanner(s) scan frequently and don't forget to update before.

And I do suggest you perform an online virusscan once in a while. (Housecall and/or Bitdefender). Because what one virusscanner can't find another one maybe can.
Also make sure that your virusscanner, the one that is installed on your system is always up to date!

Make sure your windows has the latest updates: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/
