As of now, my computer is not even functionable in normal mode. When i start my computer up in normal mode, they computer will automatically restart anytime between a few seconds to a few minutes. Please help me remedy this problem! There's a lot riding on being able to run it normally in the next week or so.
I had used a few programs that remove virtumonde, and tried so stuff to remove nail. (use the command prompt, then change the regkey) but the regkey won't change even when turning of system restore. Here's my log:

Hello,
This is a really nasty log.

It's better to print out the next instructions or save it in notepad, because you also have to work in safe mode without networking support, so this page wouldn't be available then.
It is also important you don't miss a step and perform everything in the right order!!

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Put a check next to Run VundoFix as a task.
  • You will receive a message saying vundofix will close and re-open in a minute or less. Click OK
  • When VundoFix re-opens, click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
  • Turn your computer back on.
* I see an instance of the PeperTrojan also present. Since this log is made in safe mode, I can't see if this infection is still present and active. But I guess it's already removed, since this is a very old infection.
Anyway, it won't hurt to run the removaltool.. just in case:
Download the Peperfix Tool and save it to your Desktop.

Make sure you are connected to the Internet and run it; reboot afterwards. Repeat the procedure as it has to be run twice to ensure its effectiveness.

--------------------

* Go to start > controlpanel > software > add/remove programs and uninstall next if present:

OINS or OIN
Purityscan

If both are not listed, download and use next uninstaller:
http://www.outerinfo.com/OiUninstaller.exe

Reboot afterwards.. important!

* After reboot,

* Download Brute Force Uninstaller.
Unzip it to a folder of itís own (c:\BFU).
Read here how to unzip/extract properly:
http://metallica.geekstogo.com/xpcompressedexplanation.html
  • Download qoofix.bat (rightclick on this link and choose save as)
  • Place qoofix.bat in your C:\BFU - folder. (Important!)
  • Doubleclick qooFix.bat, Close all browsers and explorer folders.
  • Choose option 1 (Qoolfix autofix) and follow the prompts.
  • The fix will ask you to reboot - so allow it to reboot.
* Download Dr.Web CureIt to the desktop:
ftp://ftp.drweb.com/pub/drweb/cureit/drweb-cureit.exe
  • We'll need that afterwards in safe mode.

    * Reboot into Safe Mode`: ( without networking support !)
įTo get into the Safe mode as the computer is booting press and hold your "F8 Key". Use your arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode" and press your Enter key.

    * Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following:

Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
    Click Yes to confirm.
    Click OK.

    * Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and delete them if still present:

    C:\WINDOWS\System32\avtapi77.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\wwzv.exe

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\nwinpqaf.exe

Please hide your hidden files and folders afterwards again, because above instructions to set your system to show all files, unhide legit files and folders as well.
And I don't want you to delete them because they may look suspicious. To hide them again, just perform the above instructions in the opposite way.

    • Click the Clear button located to the right of each option (History, Cookies, Cache).
    • Click OK to close the Options window
Alternatively, you can clear all information stored while browsing by clicking Clear All.
A confirmation dialog box will be shown before clearing the information.
    * Clean other Temporary files + Recycle bin
    • Go to start > run and type: cleanmgr and click ok.

    • Make sure Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle Bin are the only things checked.
    • Press OK to remove them.
  • Doubleclick the drweb-cureit.exe file and Allow to run the express scan
  • This will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it. This is only a short scan.
  • Once the short scan has finished, mark the drives that you want to scan.
  • Select all drives. A red dot shows which drives have been chosen.
  • Click the green arrow at the right, and the scan will start.
  • Click 'Yes to all' if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.
  • When the scan has finished, look if you can click next icon next to the files found: Posted Image
  • If so, click it and then click the next icon right below and select Move incurable as you'll see in next image:
    Posted Image
This will move it to the %userprofile%\DoctorWeb\quarantaine-folder if it can't be cured. (this in case if we need samples)
  • After selecting, in the Dr.Web CureIt menu on top, click file and choose save report list
  • Save the report to your desktop. The report will be called DrWeb.csv
  • Close Dr.Web Cureit.
  • Reboot your computer!!
  • After reboot, post the contents of the log from Dr.Web you saved previously in your next reply, together with the contents of vundofix.txt present on your C: and a new HiJackThis log.

Another thing, when I tried starting vundofix.exe as a task, it would never reopen. I even waited for 15 minutes and still nothing happened.
Thanks for all your help so far.

Hi,

Yes, vundofix doesn't work properly in safe mode.

I hope you didn't set your system to reboot automatically to safe mode again? in case you did, please make sure you set it to reboot to normal mode again... because that explains why qoofix failed as well.

Ok, run qoofix and Vundofix again. This time, in Vundofix, don't check to run it as a task and make sure your system boots to NORMAL mode afterwards.

Post a new hijackthislog and the log from Vundofix in your next reply.

Hi,

First of all uninstall Viewpoint.
Viewpoint Manager is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without users approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad". This will change from what we know in 2006 read this article: http://www.clickz.com/news/article.php/3561546
I suggest you remove the program now. Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following programs if present.

1. Please download The Avenger by Swandog46 to your Desktop.
  • Click on Avenger.zip to open the file
  • Extract avenger.exe to your desktop
2. Now, start The Avenger program by clicking on its icon on your desktop.
  • Under "Script file to execute" choose "Input Script Manually".
  • Now click on the Magnifying Glass icon which will open a new window titled "View/edit script"
  • Copy next text present in the quotebox below and paste it in the View/edit script Window:

    Files to delete:
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\awtqq.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\geebx.dll

Note: the above code was created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.

  • Click Done
  • Now click on the Green Light to begin execution of the script
  • Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.
3. The Avenger will automatically do the following:
  • Restart your computer. ( In cases where the code to execute contains "Drivers to Unload", The Avenger will actually restart your system twice.)
  • On reboot, briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.
  • After the restart, create a log file that should open with the results of Avengerís actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
  • The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.
4. * Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following:

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe, C:\WINDOWS\System32\ytjbs.exe

Ok, that one is gone.

Now qoologic that is still present. I guess you are doing something wrong with qoofix though. Guess you didn't use the fix properly or didn't perform it exactly as described.
So let's give this another try.
  • Download Brute Force Uninstaller to your C:\
  • Unzip it to a folder of its own (C:\BFU). So the BFU-folder should be on your root. In most cases this is C:\
  • Please be patient, it will take about five minutes.
  • It will ask to reboot your computer, so please allow it to reboot.
  • After the PC has restarted please post another hijackthis log.
It is really important you tell me if something didn't went as described above.

When i first ran it, Norton Antivirus said it had gotten rid of kpqeeer.exe while qoofix was scanning. So I did it one more time and disabled auto protect. Then my firewall (zone alarm) asked if i wanted to allow something like TCP Ping/Command or something like that to run and i allowed it to.

There's also a file in my root folder that's has abetterinternet.com written all over it. Is this Nail? Should I delete it?

Guess qoofix fails here - not sure if you are doing something wrong or if it asked to reboot and if you rebooted, but I guess we have to deal with this manually..

There's also a file in my root folder that's has abetterinternet.com written all over it. Is this Nail? Should I delete it?

yes, only delete the abetterinternet.com files.

Then perform next:

Open notepad and copy and paste next present in the quotebox in it:

cd "C:\Program Files\HijackThis\"
Start /min Hijackthis.exe /autolog

Save this as look.bat , choose to save as *all files and place it on your desktop.
It should look like this: Posted Image
Doubleclick on it and this will start hijackthis minimized and notepad should open with a new hijackthislog.
Copy and paste the contents of it in your next reply.

It is really important you perform my instructions in exactly the way I describe, otherwise it will fail!

* Download Killbox.
Click killbox.exe.
Select the option "Delete on reboot".
Click the button: All Files (!important!)
Now it should flash green.

Now copy the next bold part:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\ytjbs.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\kpqeeer.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\iksvtx.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\brewa.exe

Open 'file' in the killboxmenu on top and choose Paste from clipboard

Then press the button that looks like a red circle with a white X in it.
Killbox will tell you that all listed files will be removed on next reboot and asks if you would like to Reboot now, click YES
If you don't get that message, reboot manually.

Your computer should reboot now.
After reboot.....

* Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following:

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe, C:\WINDOWS\System32\ytjbs.exe
F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=C:\WINDOWS\System32\Userinit.exe,kpqeeer.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [icwnsv] C:\WINDOWS\System32\iksvtx.exe reg_run
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [eyepu] C:\WINDOWS\System32\iksvtx.exe reg_run
O4 - Global Startup: brewa.exe
<== that one should already be gone.

* Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.
Make sure your Internet Explorer is closed when you click Fix Checked!

Go to next site:
http://www.virustotal.com/en/indexf.html
On top you'll find 'Browse'
Click the browse button and browse to next file:

C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmpband.exe

Click open.
Then click the 'Send' button next to it.
This will scan the file. Please be patient.
Once scanned, copy and paste the results in your next reply.
Also doubleclick look.bat again to create a minimized hijackthislog and post it in your next reply.

Hello,
That wmpband.dll is ok, but I want that wmpband.exe, it should be really present though.... because it was showing in your previous hijackthislog in the running processes.

I guess it's a hidden file - so perform next:

Please set your system to show all files.
Click Start.
Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm.
Click OK.

Then search again for that file.

Your hijackthislog looks clean again, but I still want you to run an online scan with kaspersky, because the amount of malware you were dealing with was huge and I am pretty sure a lot of leftovers will still be present.

Please perform this online scan: Kaspersky Webscan
1. Read the Requirements and Privacy statement, then select "Accept"
2. A dialogue box will appearing asking "Do you want to install this software?" Name: kavwebscan_unicode.cab
3. Select "Install" to download the ActiveX controls that allows ActiveScan to run.
4. If running MSAS beta you may receive an alert that an IE ActiveX program requires your approval. Click "Allow"
5. When the download is complete it will say ready, click "Next"
6. Click "Scan Settings" and check the option to use the EXTENDED DATABASE, then click "OK"
7. Select a target to scan: Click on "My Computer"
8. When the scan is complete choose to save the results as "Save as Text"
9. Post the Kaspersky scan results in your next reply together with the log from Virustotal.

Also perform a search for next file:

C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\ssapi.exe

and upload it at Virustotal

and This one:

C:\Program Files\ABBYY FineReader 5.0 Sprint\Bashkir.exe

Please don't reboot. It looks like you are dealing with something that renames everytime after reboot and places in a legit folder.

Can you also perform next?

Download Silent Runners
Unzip it to a permanent folder.
Start SilentRunners.vbs
When your antivirus is giving an alert, do not block this. Allow the script.
Please wait until it prompts you the scan is finished!
Copy and paste the content of the txtfile you get afterwards in your next reply.
