HP desktop basically, I think, Windows 7.

I have a Samsung B&W Laser printer, ML-1740.

It suddenly decided not to work. No knows cause or changes.

It kept taking itself offline after warming up.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the driver and it doesn't go offline anymore.

But it still won't print although it says it is.

"Print offline" is not checked.

It is set as the default.

I changed the spooling setting, but that did nothing

When I open "devices and printers" it shows a yellow exclamation point

and says to trouble shoot it. But the troubleshooter doesn't find the problem.

I had the same thing happen with an Epson color printer. It was out of black ink. Replaced ink cartridge and now it's working like nothing happened.

The point I'm making, is be sure that it's full of ink, paper tray is full, no paper jam etc, etc.

If you have done all of those steps. Then the only thing I can think of is to uninstall the printer then reinstall it as new.

If it has low toner sensors in it it's possible. Especially since you say the trouble shooter doesn't work. That's what made me think of the replace ink/toner lockup.

I have found it prints web pages and PDF's.

It just won't print word docs.

When in a MS Word document and you use the Print command, a dialog box comes up... in that dialog box should be an area (called Printer in Word 2010) for you to select what device you want to print the document. Make sure your printer is selected to do so.

The only option I find is "find printer"

That gets me "The Active Directory Domain Services is currently unavailable."

Glad it's working, but would have been nicer to know what the root cause was so you have some information for future reference. Machines! Gotta love em.
