upgrading to windows 8

I have a mac which I want to put a duel boot onto so I can boot in windows or osX but I only have windows 8 upgrade. I have a copy of windows xp but it is being used on another pc. can I install windows xp then without registering it install windows 8 upgrade & register that or can you only upgrade a registered copy ?

No promises but, you can try. The worst will be that you are where you are now and know that it can't be done.

You might check the MS site. I seem to remember that XP was available with a key for a very low cost.
