We think this started after an AVG scan and delete of malware/virus. We got the message on our PC using both Firefox and IE 10. I have tried many fixes found online, including shutting everying thing down, but nothing so far has worked. There is no problem with our wirelessly connected devices and I know there is a connection to the internet (I pinged and nothing was lost). I am not a tech geek (wish I was) but I can follow directions. Any suggestions appreciated.

Are you saying that you cannot display ANY webpages?

Or is this a specific webpage?

none. but I just did something (wish I knew) that worked. I followed instructions here http://www.chadsnews.com/2013/02/28/how-to-fix-the-this-page-cant-be-displayed-error-in-internet-explorer-10/ and I think that did it. thanks.

Actually it did not work entirely. I can now access the web through IE but I re-installed Firefox and it does not work - nor can I update AVG. So whatever I did fixed IE but it did not fix the problem entirely. I don't get the error message, however, on Firefox, it simply does not respond when I type in a search term.

Well...that doesn't make sense, IMO.  IE is arguably the least secure, more vulnerable browser...if it's working properly, then the issues have to be with your other browser installes, IMO.

Since I have no clue as to just what you have done (from the beginning), I will move this to Am I Infected since it seems your issues began with an effort to defeat malware.

Here is how I finally, after six plus hours, fixed it

Thank you.
