Several days ago I was infected with the Spy Falcon spyware. I've done everything in the preparation guide to try and remove the situation without having to purchase a program, but the infection is still here. Every time I click on IE, it aggrivates my norton and causes me to do a scan, but the scan finds a dialer and never fixes the problem. Please help! Here is the log:

Download smitRem.exe ©noahdfear
i have send you the link by p.m
, and save the file to your desktop.
Double click on the file to extract it to it's own folder on the desktop.

Place a shortcut to Panda ActiveScan on your desktop (in Internet Explorer, right click on Panda ActiveScan link select "Copy Shortcut" then right click on your desktop and select "Paste Shortcut" or in FireFox right-click the link and select "Save Link As" and save it to your desktop).

Please download the trial version of ewido anti-malware here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

Please read Ewido Setup Instructions
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

If you have not already installed Ad-Aware SE 1.06, follow these download and setup instructions, otherwise, check for updates:
Ad-Aware SE Setup
Don't run it yet!

Next, please reboot your computer in SafeMode by doing the following:
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.
Open the smitRem folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen.
Wait for the tool to complete and disk cleanup to finish.

The tool will create a log named smitfiles.txt in the root of your drive, eg; Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

Now open Ad-aware and do a full scan. Remove all it finds.

Run Ewido:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean files, click OK
  • When it asks if you want to clean the first file, put a check in the lower left corner of the box that says "Perform action on all infections" then choose clean and click OK.
  • Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report.
  • Save the report .txt file to your desktop.
Close ewido anti-malware.

Next go to Control Panel click Display > Desktop > Customize Desktop > Web > Uncheck "Security Info" if present.

Reboot back into Windows and click the Panda ActiveScan shortcut.
  • Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button.
  • A new window will open...click the Check Now button.
    • Enter your Country
    • Enter your State/Province
    • Enter your e-mail address and click send
    • Select either Home User or Company
    • Click the big Scan Now button
  • If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
  • It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
  • When the download is complete, click on My Computer to start the scan
  • When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.
Post the contents of the Panda scan report, along with a new HijackThis Log, the contents of smitfiles.txt and the Ewido Log by using Add Reply.
Let us know if any problems persist.

Hi Joeman003,

Perculator had to go away. He'll be back next saturday though. In the meantime you will have to deal with me

Please move HijackThis to another location, preferably c:\Program Files\HijackThis. Anywhere is fine, other than your Desktop or a Temp folder. If HijackThis is in a temporary folder you run the risk of accidentally deleting the backups or it clutters your desktop with all the backups.
If you use Windows XP it might be that you just double clicked on the file HijackThis.exe, but that only extracts the file to a temporary folder. Please select the file and Extract it to a folder.

How do you make a permanent folder:

Click "My Computer", then "C:\" and then on "Program Files".
In the menu bar, "File"->"New"->"Folder".
That will create a folder named "New Folder", which you can rename to "HJT" or "HijackThis".
Now you have "C:\Program Files\HijackThis". Put your HijackThis.exe there.

Please create a list of programs that can be removed using Add/Remove Programs
Start HiJackThis. Click "Config"->"Misc Tools"->"Open Uninstall Manager" ->"Save List".
Save the log to a convenient location, and copy it into this thread.

From what I see appearing in the log there will be a few entries you can get out already, namely Kazaa, MyWay.

You might want to save this page on your favorites, so you can find it again when you return. You can also click on your name and click on "Find All Posts" to find your thread.

Run HijackThis, click on "Scan" and check the boxes next to all these items.

SpyDetector has been delisted from Spyware Warrior's Rogue List. Since the program was on it I recommend to uninstall it and use programs from the trustworthy list which can be viewed on the same page.

O23 - Service: SpyDetectorWatcher - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\SpyDetector\spywatcher.exe (file missing)

Then close all windows, and browsers, except HijackThis. Tell HijackThis to "Fix checked".

Restart your computer in Safe Mode. How do I Safe Boot my computer?

Show hidden files. How do I show hidden files?
At the end if the fix you can return the files to hidden status if you want.

Delete the following files in red (it could be that they are deleted already):

C:\WINDOWS\system32\350bbcb2.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\Joseph Rinaldi\Local Settings\Application Data\350bbcb2.exe
c:\windows\downloaded program files\gdnUS2218.exe

Restart your computer and post a new log in this thread.

I wasn't sure how to make a saved list of programs that could be removed using HJT because I didn't want to accidentally delete something I shouldn't have. I took out the programs you suggested and removed the hidden folders that you suggested and it seems to have worked! Here is the new log from HJT, let me know if it looks ok and please let me know what you think about the "saved list"

Hey Joeman003,

I wasn't sure how to make a saved list of programs that could be removed using HJT because I didn't want to accidentally delete something I shouldn't have.

Eh... exactly like I said.

Please create a list of programs that can be removed using Add/Remove Programs
Start HiJackThis. Click "Config"->"Misc Tools"->"Open Uninstall Manager" ->"Save List".
Save the log to a convenient location, and copy it into this thread.

The log looks good. How's the system doing? Please still post the log from the Uninstall Manager, then I can see if we can get rid of more.
