Hello,

I use Toshiba Laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. I regularly run AdwCleaner once/week. Today I runned AdwCleaner 3x and notice 1 key still show up after previous cleaned (after restart computer).

Key Deleted : HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ext\Settings\{2318C2B1-4965-11D4-9B18-009027A5CD4F}

That same key found again at the next scan. Attached few latest reports.

What kind of key is that? and do my laptop got infected? Thank you.

Rachel

Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool again.
  • Click on the Scan button.
  • AdwCleaner will begin to scan your computer like it did before.
  • After the scan has finished...
    <-insert any special instructions here for what to uncheck OR remove this line if there are none->
  • This time click on the Clean button.
  • Press OK when asked to close all programs and follow the onscreen prompts.
  • Press OK again to allow AdwCleaner to restart the computer and complete the removal process.
  • After rebooting, a logfile report (AdwCleaner[S#].txt) will open automatically (where the largest value of # represents the most recent report).
  • Copy and paste the contents of that logfile in your next reply.
  • A copy of that logfile will also be saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder.

FYI: AdwCleanerR19.txt shows {2318C2B1-4965-11D4-9B18-009027A5CD4F} related to several registry keys.

Key Found : HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ext\Settings\{2318C2B1-4965-11D4-9B18-009027A5CD4F}
Key Found : HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Ext\Stats\{2318C2B1-4965-11D4-9B18-009027A5CD4F}
Key Found : HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{2318C2B1-4965-11D4-9B18-009027A5CD4F}
Key Found : [x64] HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{2318C2B1-4965-11D4-9B18-009027A5CD4F}
Value Found : HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\WebBrowser [{2318C2B1-4965-11D4-9B18-009027A5CD4F}]
Value Found : HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar [{2318C2B1-4965-11D4-9B18-009027A5CD4F}]
Value Found : [x64] HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar [{2318C2B1-4965-11D4-9B18-009027A5CD4F}]

{2318C2B1-4965-11d4-9B18-009027A5CD4F} is generally related to Google Toolbar as shown here. Google Toolbar adds certain registry entries that use its googletoolbar*******.dll files to implement an Internet Explorer Toolbar. More info about how this works can be found here.

{2318C2B1-4965-11d4-9B18-009027A5CD4F} can also be related to a malicious BHO called Google Toolbar Helper as shown here.

...in which case it would be located in the registry as:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ SOFTWARE\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\ Explorer\ Browser Helper Objects\ {2318C2B1-4965-11d4-9B18-009027A5CD4F}
(Default) = Google Toolbar Helper

FakeGoogleBar.M

I see no evidence of the malicious BHO in your logs.

If you have the Google Toolbar installed, then I would not be too concerned about AdwCleaner not removing that key.
