how to get past login password

hey my wife was given a computer and its password protected but the person she recived it from doesn't remember the password to log on to the computer how do I bypass the password so we can set a new one for my wife or how do we restor the computer back to factory settings we do not have the boot disc the computer has windows xp premium on it

Hello and :welcome:

 

Enter safe mode pressing F8 at boot. The Administrator Account should be available. You can use that to change the password on the other account.

Setting a new password as an administrator

Log on as administrator. If this is the first time that you have logged by using the administrator account, there is no password assigned to the account. You can just click Administrator.
