Spent hours researching the .MCUPDATE issues and there does not seem to be an absoulte fix unless deleting the update in the registry which causes different issues.  Apparently it has been affecting many Vista users and was wondering if anyone here has had any luck in solving this issue.....

Try going to start up services by going to start orb then type 'services', Enter. Look for Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service and Media Center Extender Service. Double-click each service then choose disabled on startup. Hit Apply then OK. Reboot then check the difference.
