Sounds like CCleaner,do you have that installed?

Whats the full key?ie HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE CC engine distribution 198,or whatever it is?

yes, i have ccleaner. that just might be it. i check my registry occasionally for entries my security programs might have missed. i found this 'cc' entry and tried to google it, but nothing was found. thank you.

Also, what your asking can be part of CCTV (China) or McAfee or Astea DSE Engine.

Do you use or have any of these programs or live in China?

 

Overall we would need the whole registry key.  That will let us know what program or programs it was from or is using the key.
