Recently my computer has started freezing on me with increasing speed. I thought it was the hdd as it is 4-5 years old and replaced it with a 256 gb sandisk ssd drive. When the ssd is plugged the computer freezes randomly but usually in less then 10 mins. When the ssd is out and no hdd is in I ran the bios for 15+ mins with no problem. I reinstalled the ssd and it froze while I was in the bios.

Laptop Asus g73jh
Ram: 10 gb (4 2 2 2)
256 sandisk ssd
1gb radeo graphics

I did buy a new power supply but it has same wattage and voltage as factory default one. Last saw all temps were 60c or below and holding steady when it runs.

WOW, those items are WAY too high (140 F)! Replace any bad fans and reapply thermal compound. I would use a high quality compound like Arctic Silver. You can remove old compound with a credit card and you only need about a pea sized drop.

Its been holding steady at 60c for over a year with no incidenf. Also if it was over heating wouldnt it shut down with the bios running for 20 mins? It freezes (not force shut doen) with ssd/hdd in regardless of safe mode or bios, but runs fine with no hdds

Ohh... for a laptop... I'm more used to desktops. Maybe it's a device conflict. Start with removing everything removable except for the psu, motherboard, video card and hdd. Leave it on and keep it in the bios menu (or Operating system if possible) for about 10 minutes. Keep adding devices one at a time until the computer acts strangely.

I could try this but the problem I fave is the ssd freezes. And the only other hdd with an OS is the 5 hear old semi warped hdd (lol). Maybe I can bkrrow a friends.

It may not be the ssd causing the problem, try putting the ssd in another computer.

At this very moment my Asus is running windows vista with no creeze and I moved the ssd to my moms newer hp (old one didnt support 64 bit) no freeze so far.

Edit- if neither freezds then what? Does it mean my asus is ssd incompatible?

It will take less than 10 minutes to do the following...after connecting the drive with Windows.

Read the instructions first...then try.

Please download MiniToolBox  , save it to your desktop and run it.

Checkmark the following checkboxes:
List last 10 Event Viewer log
  List Installed Programs
List Users, Partitions and Memory size.

Click Go and paste the content into your next post.

Also...please Publish a Snapshot using Speccy - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic323892.html/page__p__1797792#entry1797792 , taking care to post the link of the snapshot in your next post.

Update from last night. Old asus ran win vista hdd flawlessly no freezes at all.
Moms computer ran ssd fine, no freezing, began applying windows uodates via her pc.
Read up on other ssd freezing problems and discovered corsair has issue with ahci vs. Ide

Turned asus into ide reader instead of ahci.
Transferred ssd to asus this morning and was constantly greeted by bsod (tko fast to snapshot or read)

Reinstalling windows as I write this. If computer acts up will attempt minitoolbox/speccy

EDIT UPDATE- still froze but off to work wikk try minitoolbox when I get home

I have 3 Corsair SSDs and I have never employed AHCI setting...and I've not had problems with either of them.

I also have an ASUS board (M5A78L).
