My old windows 7 build has recently started to 'hang' for 3 or 4 minutes, I think its usually after its been 'sleeping' (but I'm not sure about that).

Its totally hung up for a period of time, then begins to respond normally.

While its hung I can't bring up Task Manager or anything else to try to determine whats the problem.

I've uninstalled everything that I had installed recently but no change.

Also scanned for viruses (Malwarebytes, Microsoft Security Essentials), nothing found.

Any ideas or help would be appreciated.

Thanks

BT

How about temperatures?  Have you cleaned the dust out of your computer lately?  How about your hard drive?  Have you run chkdsk and let it search for and attempt repair of any bad sectors?

Everyone with a computer should back his system up to an external hard drive regularly.

svchost.exe     Process ID: 960     User: SYSTEM     Domain: NT AUTHORITY     Path: C:\Windows\system32\svchost.exe
Memory Usage: 41 MB     Peak Memory Usage: 1.06 GB

You may want to invesigate that...1GB RAM at peak is out of the ordinary, IME.

Free space on C:  12%, suggested minimum is 15%, although I don't think that's causing a problem (I've run my system down to 10% before without any observed problems).

You can try the Fixit at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2545227 for the errors where WinMgmt is the Source.

IMO, your code-integrity errors may indicate system file corruption.  You can run the sfc /scannow command to try to remedy the suspected file corruption.

It also would not hurt to run the chkdsk /r command on your Windows partition.

Thanks Louis -

I did do the chkdsk ;& also the sfc /scannow,  nothing reported as corrupted or bad sectors.

I also applied the 'Fixit' thing.

Still having the same issue, so....I'm guessing that the problem might be related to the first item you mentioned, with the Peak Memory usage.

How can i figure out whats causing that - there are numerous services running with the  'svchost.exe' - is there any way to figure out what that one with the high memory usage is related to?

thanks again

Bruce

There are several tools you can use.
