Does anyone know how to get rid of these "Windows media" pop-up adds that wants me to upgrade.

Just click NO when you are asked to update, which goes into Media 11.  You have two boxes. one says yes the other says NO

Click NO. That is the best you can do, because you are registered to the Windows Media Plalyer.

First of all - welcome to BC !

Another way of avoiding the Windows media pop-ups is to stop using the Windows Media Player or the Media Centre. Have you ever tried a different player ? Have a look at the freeware VLC player. The only pop-ups I have ever had with that are when an update becomes available. You cna get it from here :-
