My desktop freezes once in a while.

Everything else works, I can use google, but if I ever opened up task manager it would probably show windows explorer entirely was what's not responding.

If I right click on the desktop, or try to click and drag, nothing happens. My CPU and RAM, VRAM usage from the rainmeter program show absolutely nothing funny, (I don't know what my disc R/W is, but probably fine). Until later, after a few moments (10 some seconds), then everything catches up.

Make & model computer, Windows version?  How old is your computer?  My dog broke my crystal ball.   :lmao:

I will ask about paging and your hard drive though.  How much RAM do you have?  What are you running when this happens?  Do you have a lot of Internet tasks open when it happens?  Have you run chkdsk and let it check for and attempt repair of bad sectors?

Everyone with a computer should back his system up to an external hard drive regularly.

Do you use the Slideshow wallpaper feature?

Yes, I have a huge number of backgrounds that rotate once per day.

That's actually related?

Okay

HP Pavillion DV6, 2 years old about.

W8, always up to date.

I'm sorry, I hope your dog is fine.

I have 8GB's of RAM.

I'm running anything from nothing to something. Sorry i'm serious though, it's usually anything. Probably chrome often, but it's just because I run chrome all the time.

No, haven't run chkdsk, but last I did, months ago, was all green.

Once per day isn't bad, but ever couple of minutes (like mine :D ) could slow down a system with little RAM or a low budget videocard.

Which brings me to my next question: What kind of video? Integrated or an add-on card? What specs, do you know?

Um, integrated, but pretty good.

AMD A8 3500m APU

4-core.

I think it's pretty good, plays Skyrim on medium-low, plays FC3 well too.

Since you have 8 GB RAM and this can happen when you aren't running much, I guess we can rule out paging as the culprit.  This could be caused by some kind of error recovery.  Download minitoolbox and run it.  Check the boxes for List the last 10 Event Viewer errors, List installed programs, List partitions and memory size, List minidump files.

My computer glitched, then I ran minibox, so that was the only event at 8:39, which was pretty much about right.

and
here's the rest
I deleted the long list of installed programs since it's really long.
Sorry if you really need it but I think it's not necessary, so it's not as long now.

I see several errors in your system including chrome.exe, Office 2013, VC90.CRT,  0x000000c2,  MSOXMLMF.DLL, and Defender/Silverlight.  A search in the MS support web site indicates that hotfix KB2855336 can be downloaded from http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=39452 to address the 0x000000c2 problem.  Try that and see if it helps.

If this had happened to me, I would've just restored my system from my external hard drive where I keep up to date full system backups.  Food for thought.    When you've gotten your system back like you want it, I urge you to get yourself an external hard drive and a good 3rd party backup program. You can set it up to do everything automagically at the time and frequency of your choice. 1 TB external hard drives are about $60 these days and a really good FREE backup program is the Easeus Todo Backup Free.  That can save you a lot of time and frustration the next time something like this happens. Sooner or later it happens to all computers for one reason or another.

 Good luck.

Everyone with a computer should back his system up to an external hard drive regularly.

Um sorry, the hotfix that you linked doesn't seem to work with my computer. Is Windows RT, NOT for my W8 x64?

Huh?

I'm sorry what do you mean?

I'm not really sure what RT is but I think that's the tablet, which isn't what I'm running.

I'm running x64 windows 8 on an HP laptop.

You mentioned RT in this post.  I didn't see anything in the link I posted about RT.  I'm sorry if that fix didn't work for you.
