I hard shutdown my desktop computer while it was backing up files. At the time i was using the Dell back up tool. Now my computer can't start at all. It turns on and shows a black screen and restarts endlessly. Can anybody tell me what is going on and what to do?

It is probably a file system or registry corruption problem.

I suggest you use an install disk to access the repair menu, then use system restore to restore to an earlier point in time.

If this doesn't work I would then attempt "sfc /scannow" from the command prompt, also under the repair menu on the install disk.

make sure to choose the right bit rate for your machine, and create a disk with the image rather than burn the data to disk.

I did what you told me but all I get is a black screen with a white line to the upper left. Is there a problem with my disk? I created the disk as an image using power I do.

Hmmm, is there another computer you can try and boot with that disk? Just to confirm it is good.
