i just upgraded an unwanted acer laptop from windows vista to windows 7 ultimate 32-bi.it was a fresh install, cleaning the previous OS away and everything went well.

the problem lies with the windows boot manager.normally there would be an X-second timeout in the bootmanager screen, but in my case there isn't.it just stays there until i press enter.

i tried editing the timeout value in msconfig, bcdedit in cmd and in advanced system settings, but the results are the same.no timeout in the windows bootmanager screen.

i want my laptop to boot by itself, any help is appreciated.

Hi,

Control Panel -> System -> Startup and Recovery -> 'Time to display list of operating systems' should be checked and you can adjust the display time to suit you.

did as instructed.

now when i reach the screen where "windows boot manager" is supposed to show up,it just shows a black screen with - at the top left corner and then there's a continuous beep sound.after about 5-10 seconds the beep sound is heard no more and it boots normally.

Something else is going on and I don't feel qualified to help you dig it out. It might be an infection.
