Hi, my computer dies when unplugged. It varies in time, but usually within 5-10 minutes. I have run software to tell me how much my battery holds to confirm that the battery isn't gone and I get these results:

EfHZ5Bw.png

Unless I'm crazy, that means that the battery isn't dead. I then proceeded to run battery diagnostics, and it told me things we're set a certain way that my settings to not reflect such as "Sleep timeout is disabled (On Battery) The computer is not configured to automatically sleep after a period of inactivity." I went to check, and it said 5 minutes on battery. Here is the report from that:

I guess my question is, what could possibly be wrong? I am getting tired of having to be plugged in.

seems like false reporting from software... the physical fact that the battery runs out of power seems to be more accurate. shrug.gif

Is there anything I can do to confirm this? My laptop's battery is internal and can only be replaced with a huge hassle and I would rather not do it if i don't have to...

While I look at that...

lets check your error reporting in case it is something else causing this.

Start Orb > right click Computer > Manage > Event Viewer > Windows Logs > System

You have to wait a while for the results to come up, then click the "Level" column header and navigate to the critical errors with the sidebar slider.

Are the errors from unexpected shutdown from power?

Last time my computer crashed it listed two critical errors:

"The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."

and

"The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error is caused because the system stopped responding and the hardware watchdog triggered a system reset."

Is it the same every time? with the other times? both errors have the same time stamp?

I think it actually is the battery, but I'm not an Acer expert... Might be worth making a support ticket with Acer to double check.

You can buy the batteries online, and have a go replacing it yourself. I couldn't find a vid of a teardown for you though sorry. Getting those covers off can be tricky business.

Please let me know what they say if you do start an Acer ticket.

Hey, just an update, I have confirmed that it is not my battery. I got nothing from the Acer ticket, but the past few days, my computer has been running off battery for 3-4 hours, so it seems to be working now. but i have had this problem for almost a year, so im a bit skeptical that it just randomly stopped happening...

That is unusual... intermittent problems are the worst, except when they magically fix themselves.

Thanks for letting us know how everything went. If the machine starts doing it again let me know and I'll look deeper at it.
