i must say, it would be mighty helpful if there were an online service that could find the title and specifics of any playing music track one hears in a youtube vid/ tv documentary/other. if the developer put a few ads round the corners of the site and gave sponsored links to where the song was available they could make loads of money. i have often found myself wondering what a track i overheard (sometimes behind speech during a film or documentary) actually was.

Back on this site, for a while anyway, been so busy the last year.

There are mobile apps that will do that. Soundhound and Shazam are just two. They won't pick out background music however because they 'listen'. Google has one as well, called Sound Search. I've never used that service.

I was thinking the *same thing* that rp88 was when I saw the OP and then, there was Animal, giving (again) some great info.

I did not know about any of these three apps and now, I'm suddenly a wee bit smarter.

Much thanks.
