I have not been able to play asx files for some time.
Windows medial player tells me it cannot play the file and gives the following error code C00D002B and error message "The request is invalid in the current state."
I have all windows (XP SP2) updates and my WMP is V 11.0.5358,4287
In my File Associations List, ASX says WIndows Media Audio/video File
In the "advanced" section, there are two entries under "actions", Open and Play, with Play appearing to be the default.
The advanced settings for each are:
Open
Action=&open
Application used to perform action=
"C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe" /prefetch:7 /Open "%L"
There is a tick in the box "Used DDE" and under Topic: it says "System"

Play
Action=&play
Application used to perform action=
"C:\Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe" /prefetch:7 /Play "%L"
There is a tick in Use DDE
Topic says "system"

When I open Windows Media Player and check Tools Options, Files, I do NOT see ASX files. :thumbsup:
